Spring and Summer Women's Ministry Offerings

Be Together

Feeling lonely? It is one of the most common struggles I hear from our women. Longing for deep, gospel friendship?  Wishing you had time to be with the friends you do have?

Time to just be together is hard to find in our busy schedules, but it takes time to build and maintain friendships.  So, I am carving out time and space to do that this spring.

Between Bible Study and Summer Book Club, join the Women’s Ministry for “Be Together” opportunities. Each will offer unstructured time and space for the women of the church to gather and just be together.

Monday evening opportunities are from 7-8:30 on April 21st, May 5, May 19, and June 9 on the porch at Whole Foods in the Summit.  The Wednesday morning opportunities are from 9-11 on April 23, May 7, and May 21 at the church and offer childcare for $5/family with advanced registration.

Have a conversation with someone you don’t know or want to know better; bring a game to play; chat with friends while you knit; use it however it works for you to connect with others.

Though they are offered in the same time blocks as our Bible Studies, you do not need to have been a participant in those to come to these opportunities. Take the chance to show up and get to know other women of our church.

Please register for one (Monday evenings or Wednesday mornings) or both groups to receive any updates and reminders we need to get out to those who might participate but then feel free to show up for some or all of the dates for that group.  For childcare, please register for each specific date.

Book Club

Women’s Book Club is back! Our goal with the Book Club is to read a book together, discuss it in small groups, and enjoy fellowship in the season between Bible Studies. It is intentionally lighter in workload yet rich in scriptural truths and fun fellowship.

This year we will be reading Humble Roots: How Humility Grounds and Nourishes Your Soul by Hannah Anderson.

We will offer three options to choose from.

  • Monthly on Saturday mornings in a home from 9-11 am on April 26th, May 10th, June 14th and July 12th.

  • Weekly on Monday evenings at the church from 7-8:30 pm from June 23 to July 28

  • Weekly on Wednesday mornings at the church from 9-11 am from June 25 to July 30.

    • Amber will be offering her Summer Children’s Program for children ages 1-5 at that same time, 9-11 am on Wednesday mornings.  This is a wonderful enrichment program for children available for $18/week with advance registration. If you need childcare to participate in the Book Club but that cost is prohibitive, please let Ronda know. If you need care for a child under 1, please check with Amber and she will see if she has the staffing capacity to accommodate younger children.

Cost is $10 to participate, which includes the cost of the book.

Register for the Saturday Session by April 6th and for the Monday and Wednesday Sessions by June 8th.

About the book:

Feeling worn thin? Come find rest.

The Blue Ridge Parkway meanders through miles of rolling Virginia mountains. It’s a route made famous by natural beauty and the simple rhythms of rural life. And it’s in this setting that Hannah Anderson began her exploration of what it means to pursue a life of peace and humility.

Fighting back her own sense of restlessness and anxiety, she finds herself immersed in the world outside, discovering a classroom full of forsythia, milkweed, and a failed herb garden. Lessons about soil preparation, sour mulch, and grapevine blights reveal the truth about our dependence on God, finding rest, and fighting discontentment.

Humble Roots is part theology of incarnation and part stroll through the fields and forest. Anchored in the teaching of Jesus, Anderson explores how cultivating humility—not scheduling, strict boundaries, or increased productivity—leads to peace. “Come unto me, all who labor and are heavy laden,” Jesus invites us, “and you will find rest for your souls.”

So come. Learn humility from the lilies of the field and from the One who is humility Himself. Remember who you are and Who you are not, and rediscover the rest that comes from belonging to Him.

About the author:

Hannah Anderson lives with her family in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia where her husband, Nathan, pastors Brookhill Baptist Church. Hannah is the author of several books, including Humble Roots: How Humility Grounds and Nourishes Your Soul and All That’s Good: Recovering the Lost Art of Discernment. She is a contributor for multiple Christian organizations including Revive Our Hearts and The Gospel Coalition. You can find more information at sometimesalight.com and hear her through her podcast, Persuasion.

Review of the book:

This is an exquisite book. In Humble Roots, Hannah Anderson intends to make us gardeners... to plant and tend the rarest of cultivars, humility. Humility orients us rightly towards our bodies, emotions, and intellect. It orients us rightly towards our possessions, desires, and circumstances. It orients us rightly towards the cross. And nurtured carefully in the fertile soil of grace, humility grants us a harvest of true rest. Wistful, nostalgic, and deeply wise. I read it through tears. - Jen Wilkin

Prayer Chain

The prayer chain is a long standing part of the Women's Ministries at TCPC. There are around 100 women currently on our prayer chain, who receive prayer requests by "kneemail" (e-mail) and agree to pray for the submitted prayers. It exists to support our brothers and sisters in Christ and their loved ones by praying to the LORD on their behalf. Answers to prayer are also passed on to the prayer chain when we receive them.

To join the prayer chain or submit a prayer request please contact:
Kathryn Lyon: 859-269-4212 or krl40502@aol.com
